New Hope Valley Railway Hosts Ride the Rails with Santa Claus this Holiday Season

unnamedRide the Rails with Santa Claus this Holiday Season
New Hope Valley Railway Hosts Annual Santa Train Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15

(Bonsal, NC, Oct. 31, 2013) — The New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), will offer its annual Holiday Santa Trains the first two weekends of December on Saturdays Dec. 7 and 14 and Sundays Dec. 8 and 15, 2013. Trains will depart from the rail yard located in Bonsal, N.C., just 10 minutes south of Apex off of U.S. Highway 1, Exit 89.

A number of holiday characters will interact with kids of all ages during their visit. Frosty the Snowman will greet children in the rail yard, while an elf from the North Pole hands out candy canes or coal depending on who’s been naughty or nice.

Santa Clause will be on board the train joining visitors for a ride in the open-air passenger cars pulled by either a diesel or steam locomotive. Santa will go car-to-car, talk to each child and pose for photos during the hour-long ride.

“The holidays are such a special time of year at the New Hope Valley Railway, and the annual rides with Santa are a favorite among both visitors and volunteers who put the event together,” says long-time NHVR volunteer Dave Chasco. “We see many families return year after year who’ve made the Triangle Train part of their holiday tradition.”

Chasco says there can be a chill in the air in December and advises visitors to check the weather and dress accordingly. “Trains will operate in snow, sleet or rain, so come prepared,” he adds. Hot chocolate, hot dogs and other concessions are available from a food vendor set-up in the rail yard.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.TriangleTrain.comor at the train yard the day of the ride.

Holiday Santa Trains will operate two weekends in December 2013:
• Saturday and Sunday, December 7 & 8
• Saturday and Sunday, December 14 & 15

Diesel train rides depart at:
• 11:00 am, 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm

Steam train rides depart at:
• 12:15 pm and 2:45 pm

Diesel train ride tickets are:
• $10 for adults and $7 for children, ages 2-12.

Steam train ride tickets are:
• $12 for adults and $8 for children.

NHVR recommends buying tickets online and arriving at the train yard 30 minutes before the listed departure time.

Caroleers are a vibrant acapella group based at Mt. Zion Wesleyan Church in Thomasville. Authentic costumes dating from the 1880’s allow listeners to be transported back in time as they listen to familiar carols like Silent Night, children’s songs like Rudolph, and seasonal favorites like White Christmas. Since 1994, the group has logged over thirty performances at Biltmore House in Asheville, sung at Chinqua Penn Plantation in Reidsville and has performed for numerous functions from banquets to nursing homes.

We have added 2 new passenger cars, therefore, we can ride an additional 100 people per train ride.  We are putting a new exhibit in the service station with antique toys and Coke memorabilia.  We are planning on having a horse drawn wagon ride to the Reid Plantation and having the blacksmith, slave kitchen and main house open.

Santa Train Chugs Along in Spencer

Source: Salisbury Post

By Hugh Fisher – hfisher@salisburypost.com

SPENCER — He’s making a list, and checking it twice, but not on a sleigh with snow and ice.

Santa Claus is taking the train to town.

With festive decorations aboard, the Santa Train’s been running at the N.C. Transportation Museum for the last two weekends.

Santa and his elves board to pass out treats and talk to each child and family.

“You kids stay sweet and smart,” Santa Claus said to Chloe and Cameron Mullinax of Mount Pleasant.

“Santa’s going to visit you real soon!”

Their mom, Christy Mullinax, has been bringing her daughters to Spencer for the Santa Train for years.

Chloe, who’s 3 years old this Christmas, smiled while one of the volunteers took her picture with Santa, her sister and her mom.

Cameron, who’s 7, had a long wish list ready for Santa:

“A DVD player that sits on your lap and a (Nintendo) DSi,” she said, among other things.

“You think he’s got enough time to get all that together?” Christy asked with a smile.

Cameron smiled and nodded. “He got my letter!”

Families from as far off as Shelby and Winston-Salem were among the riders sharing wishes with Santa yesterday afternoon.
